What you will need to get started

  • An A4 size notebook
  • A pen and pencil
  • A diary or journal to record your thoughts/findings through out your goal setting activity
  • A file to keep your activity goal setting material confidential and tidy.

  • Do make full use of your journal/diary to record anything that will help to shed light on the goal setting activity processes as you work through them. Note, that this is the first stage - your starting point.

I strongly recommend you read how to journal. This activity will help you no end in getting the very best out of your goalsetting activity.

Your recordings can be any issues that arise for you during goals settings. For example:

  • Any fears you may hold
  • Any doubts,
  • Insights you gain along the way
  • Your progress
  • Any of those wonderful inspirations that grab you along the way.

  • Recordinng your realities in this way will not only help shed light on the activity goal setting process you are working through, it will enhance your growing level of awareness as to where you are now, where you want to be and the positive changes taking place within and around you.

The function of the health wheel is to assist you in:

  • Assessing each of the four key areas of your health
  • Identifying and prioritising the areas you need to change now
  • enabling you to set concrete goals
  • enabling progress review by comparing where you are now, against future changes.

  • How to use your Health Womens health wheel

  • Using a glass or cup, draw yourself a circle, similar to the one illustrated.

  • Next, draw four quarters, each one representing an area of your health.

  • Treat the centre of the Wheel as 0 and the outer edge as 10, then draw a line across each area that reflects your present level of satisfation in each health area of your life.

  • Please note, the wheel is designed to assess where you are now at this present moment in time and not where you would ideally want to be.

You will see from the mock example, that the present level of satisfaction in 'beauty fitness' and 'physical health' is 9 and 7 respectively, which is fairly high.

However, 'food health' and 'mental health' scores only 4 and 2, suggesting very low levels of satisfaction in these areas. This immediately tells you that these latter areas in this example, need to be prioritised for some health goals. Once you have carried out this exercise for yourself, you'll be in no doubt as to which areas you should focus your goal setting activity.
