What Are The Components Of Herbal Health Care Supplements?

Herbals or herbal nutrition supplements are essentially made up of one or more different herbs and plant material and/or may be used for its flavour, scent, oils and therapeutic health benefits. Herbal dietary supplements for example, are primarily used to supplement your diet and may contain one or several - vitamins, minerals, amino acids, herbs etc.,

These herbal health care diet supplements typically comes in tablet form, capsules, powder, liquid or gel form. It is important to note that herbal health care dietary supplements should not be used as meal replacements but in the context of supplementing your regular balanced diet.

Many herbal health care supplements may claim to be "natural herbal supplements". However, this is by no means an indication that the health supplement is safe and without harmful side effects. For example, you may well experience an allergy or a severe reaction to herbs and plants you do not necessarily consume nor even come into every day contact with.

The advice is, that people with liver kidney or heart conditions should not take herbal supplements, or at the very least to take herbals in minute quantities. Links have been established between serious liver damage and the herbs, Comfrey and Kava - which has been used to relieve symptoms of stress.

Before using any alternative herbal health care products or natural herbal supplement, be sure to consult your doctor or other health care practitioner. This is especially important if you happen to be taking medication - whether prescription or otherwise, for any of your health, womens health issues or nutritional needs. It is known that some herbal health supplements can and do interact with medications, which could cause you serious health problems.

Other Risks Associated With Herbal Health Care

Even though there are many hundreds if not thousands of herbs with a long history of outstanding health benefits, the fact remains that if you're not careful you can end up damaging your health.

It is claimed that this is because some of the active ingredient(s) used in many herbal health care remedies and supplements are not fully known or understood. And since there may even be hundreds of these compounds in a herbal supplement, the risks are clear to see.

The American Medical Association have a number of documented cases of heart attacks which have been induced by certain herbals. Herbal diet supplements such as Ephedra - a herbal weight loss supplement, is known to contain certain chemicals that over- work the heart.

As the increasing demand for herbal health care and herbal health products reach new heights, so too have the efforts of some health and wellness product providers in promoting inaccurate or even deceptive claims about herbal health remedies or wellness products.

Additionally, published reports on some herbal supplements have found a gap between the content labelling and the actual contents. There's also been instances where herbal health care supplements have been found to be contaminated with prescription drugs, metals and other substances.
