Fruit Compote



A dried fruit compote recipe makes a delicious all-year round healthy recipe dessert that will make a wonderful contribution to some of your other 4th of July recipes.

Dried fruit recipes are especially tasty when served with a honey-sweetened custard.

You can use literally any dried fruit in the following fruit dessert recipe, including dried figs, dried apricots or even sultanas and raisins.







4th Of July Recipe - Compote Recipe

  • Preparation Time: 15 minutes
  • Cooking Time: 20 minutes
  • Serves 4:
  • 1 x 250g (9 oz) pkt mixed fruit
  • 450 ml (3 qtr pint) water
  • Grated rind of small lemon
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1-2 tbsp honey to taste
  • 2 Bananas


    Honey Custard

  • 3 eggs
  • 2-3 tbsp honey to taste
  • 250 ml (8 fl oz) milk
  • 1 tbsp toasted slivered almonds




    Preparation

  • Place dried fruit and water into a pan. Bring to boil then lower heat and simmer fruit very gently, covered for 20 mins until just tender

  • Stir in the lemon rind and juice and honey. Transfer to a serving bowl, cover and chill

  • Make the custard - beat eggs with honey. Heat milk until almost boiling then pour over eggs. Stir over gentle heat until custard just coats back of spoon. Do not let mixture boil. Pour into a bowl, cool, stirring occasionally then cover and chill

  • When ready to serve, peel and slice bananas and add to fruit compote. Whisk custard sauce, pour into a bowl and sprinkle with the almonds

  • Serving Suggestion Tips:

  • You may use sugar instead of honey to sweeten your dried fruit dessert recipe should you prefer

  • You could serve the fruit compote with chilled cream rather than honey custard
